The pod axle has several vertical 'flanges' extending downward a couple of inches near the hubs. My dealer stated that their repair shop places the lift jack at the flanges. They make sure that the jack pad or 'cup' catch both flanges. Thus there is no pressure placed on the actual cylinder of the axle. The flanges are welded onto the axle and spread the lift over a larger area rather than a single point, if the jack were to push upward onto the cylinder itself. The lift point is also as far outboard as possible which is recommended.

[QUOTE=techntrek] Officially they don't want you to jack on the frame, or the axle. I agree the only choice is on the axle near the wheel.
================ Well ...the reason I ask this question is that I went through the same issue with another model Teardrop trailer. As close as Imever came to an answer was that the "safest" place to lift/jack a trailer is on the axle tube AS CLOSE TO THE FRAME AS POSSIBLE. MJ |

That's usually where I jack it... on the axle close to the wheel. I usually place the jack stand near the jack on the axle as well.

I don't see any harm jacking under the axle near the wheel, but don't recommend jacking the trailer up anywhere else. There is an engineered bend in the axle that you don't want to influence by jacking towards the center.

I hear a lot of you guys saying not to jack up the pod under the axle. I thought this was the right place to jack up the Pod. I've been placing the jack on the axle. Where is the correct place to put the jack... and the jack stand for that matter?

MJ - These are the smaller 14" tires - not from a Hood River Edition - that came on our 2010 rp-177. They are labeled "Towmax" which is a tire that I have no experience with.

While we had the R-Pod last year we put 20 000 km on it in one summer and tire wear was never an issue, they wore even and thread wear was about 40% when we traded it in the fall. We did a lot of high speed driving (100 - 110 km/hour), the tires were inflated 5psi above recommended with Nitrogen and they were balanced. The tires never even run warm, never mind hot. We used a WDH but no sway control. BTW, these were the original tires that came on the Pod. |
