Just wanted to give everyone a headsup that there are 2 versions of the Weber Q120 propane grill on the market now.  The New Version has a taller lid and a thermometer and retails for $20 more than the older version.  Both versions have the Q100 burners and performance-wise, there isn't much of a noticeable difference.

I called Weber today and the phone rep claims that the new and old lids are not interchangeable and cannot be retrofitted, which I doubt since the base is the same.  I am now on a quest to find the part number for the new lid.

The Q120 has always had a thermometer I believe, in addition to the fold-out shelf on each side.  The Q100 is the smaller version, without either.

The Q120 listed on the Weber website is the new one that was introduced in 2011.  The confusion comes from many retail listings for the Q120 without specifying exactly which one the consumer is getting.  Sometimes the photo does not match the product description on certain online listings.

The New one:

If anyone is looking to buy a Q120, I would definitely go for the newer one for the taller dome.

OK, my bad.  They should have introduced it with a different product number to avoid any issues or confusion to consumers.

I just looked again.  While I agree that many times the picture doesn't match the product, are you sure you're not confusing the 2-products?  I don't ever recall reading about or seeing the Q120 without a thermometer and shelves, nor have I read or seen a Q100 with either the thermometer or shelves.

Weber makes the Q100, Q120, Q200 and Q220, all of which are similar.

Thanks for checking on the specs this_is_nascar, I thought I was going nuts earlier on today as well. So I called Weber to check (about the grill, not my sanity) Wink LOL

We bought ours in Fall of 2010 when we picked up our 152 in WI.  Weber makes 3 sizes, the 100s, 200s and 300s.  Thermometers and steeper/higher domes were the feature of 200s and 300s which were the bigger models. The last two digits of the model were supposed to mean whether the grill was gas, charcoal or electric and also what accessories it came with (such as the flip-out tables).

We had to make a choice between the 100series and the 200series bc we wanted thermometer convenience and the higher dome to be able to put a cast iron skillet on the grill and still shut the lid but wanted the smaller size and lighter weight of the 100s.  The 200s in our opinion were just too heavy to be portable but not big enough to be that useful.  300s is too big for 2-4 people in a pod so we went back to the 100s, got the model that came with the table (120), bought a separate thermometer and left the cast iron skillet at home.

So this whole "New" 120 is both annoying in the sense that a) it was exactly what we had originally wanted - it has the best of both worlds (100 series size plus better dome shape of the bigger grills with a thermometer) and b) it's confusing because if it's true that the new and old 120s are not interchangeable, then there's going to be problems further down the road when we need to get replacement parts and accessories.

A new model number would've made so much more sense.

I just spoke to Weber again and it seems the rep on the phone won't sell me a "replacement" new model Q120 lid. Booo. Angry

I'm going to email them and see if I get a different answer.

Wow.  Learn something new each day.  As we've already siad, something as simple as a different model number would have removed the confusion.
