Calendar Event: Honda 2000I Generator Posted: 18 Feb 2012 at 5:26pm |
We have a 171 and are considering the purchase of a Honda 2000I portable generator. Has anyone done the same and if so, how does the unit work for your Pod?

A Honda eu2000i is a nice little generator. But, if you're looking to run your A/C, its probably not the generator for you. Stock, the Honda will not run the A/C. However, you can modify your A/C with a hard start capacitor to make things work. But, even then, the Honda will be running flat out to provide power and will be a bit noisier than you'd like.
Have a look at the Yamaha EF2400iSHC - its a quality unit much like the Honda. Similarly, its small and portable. But, its made specifically to handle high starting loads like RV air conditioners.

I bought an inexpensive Champion that can run the air and seems to be fairly well built for far less than a quarter of the Honda's price. In parks that don't allow generators the quiet Honda is just as prohibited as my Champion. I have tried it on the Pod but only at home. I haven't taken it camping yet.
Good luck on your choice, and let us know what you decide to do. |

Hey Ben! Rick, Mickie, Becky and I are heading soon to Ft. Myers for a kayak trip. The ladies will stay at the campground while Rick and I do some paddling. This is practice for a 740 mile kayak trip that we hope to do in the summer from NY state to Maine.

good luck. I heard you and Rick are going to FL. Drive safe and have fun. We are doing New Bern in March for 3 then up to VA for 4 and who knows where from there.

Thanks! I just assembled an outdoor grill that we got from Sam's so I'm getting in the camping spirit. It's about time to use the Pod. We may have to do another fam trip to Crisp RV just to learn all of the systems again...
