I bought the rizers from FR for 75 bucks my dealer here in nokomis fl installed them for 99$,I did not buy the 2012  177 from them ,but I will take all my business to them thay are really friendly and good people ,I hope they read this Manfred Rocker

If the installer knows what he is doing, riser installation should not take more than one shop hour.
I installed my risers by myself and it took slightly less than one hour.  And I am certainly no mechanic.
Ask your installer his hourly shop charge.  If they take longer than one hour, you know to never use that shop again.

I'm afraid I paid just a little more than that.  But I wanted the dealer to do it so I bit the bullet so to speak.

I never noticed a change in mpg before vs. after.  We towed for over a year w/o them and a year since.  As Alex&Marie said, they are a necessity anyway so don't sweat a possible 1/4 mpg hit.
 
Most states require trailer brakes for anything over 2000 pounds, and all pods qualify for that.  They come with electric brakes on the axle, you just need to install a brake controller.  I highy recommend the Tekonsha line of brake controllers - do NOT get a cheaper "timer" based brake controller.  The Tekonsha line (I have the Prodigy) uses an inertia sensor which accurately and smoothly adds braking force to the trailer's brakes.  Safer and much smoother for you.  You can usually get them for a little over $100 if you look around online.

I'm a new 177 owner too. We put the risers on as soon as we got the r-pod home. the parts were $75 from FR and of course I needed a couple of tools that: a torque wrench, a socket  set large enough for the bolts that hold the risers in place, and two jack stands.  Altogether I spent more on the tools than on the parts, but I wanted those for other jobs anyway. 

We have been camping for the last 15 days but have not had a good change to check the mileage. First impressions are that it hasn't changed much if any. 

The extra clearance was a necessity for some of the roads we will be traveling, so we would have put the risers in even if the mileage was somewhat worse.

The job it self was pretty easy and has been described well elsewhere on the forum.

Just bought a slightly used (2 nights lodging) 2011 Pod 177. Already I'm wondering about axle risers. Does the cost run about $100? have you noticed any effect on fuel economy?

Are electric brakes worth the cost? We hope to do some travelling in a couple years into the Rockies? What are the reviews on brands and types?

I took the trailer out once last sept on a shakedown run and bent one of the rear jacks dragging it getting out of my driveway. So yep I am going to need risers.
