I turned my noisy clonking pump, I rated it at a noise level of 10. Turned it in to a soothing purr, noise level 1.5. If anybody is interested I can make up a sketch of what I did, and post it.

One thing to try - if marwayne didn't already do it - is to unscrew the pump from the floor, lay a rubber mouse pad on the floor, and then screw the pump down on top of the mouse pad.

If a rubber mouse pad is not sufficient, you could mount the pump on a 'sound absorption' pad.
It allows you to bolt the pump to the pad and then using separate bolts, bolt the pad to the floor. That is what I did, it made a big difference in noise level. I also installed some foam insulation sleeves (used on water pipes) on the hoses that run to and from the pump. That also quieted down the pump noise. |

marwayne, I am intrested, I tried techstreks mouse pad under the pump, it helped some, however I thought that most of the noise was from hydralic surge, as the diaphram pump pushed and then quit water would move in a jerky style down the water lines and cause the pipes to jerk, kind of like when the washer in your house slams a valve shut and the water causes the pipes to jerk due to the inertia of the moving water going from 20mph to zero. I though about doing a water column with an air pocket in the lines but it is too much trouble/work for the results. thanks for the tips.

You can get an accumulator tank which will help.

First I covered the pump body with SDM (sound deadening matirial), this matirial is a membrane of 1/8" vinyl and 1/4" foam. Than I mounted the pump on a piece SMD, that I mounted on 2 strips of plywood that are screwed to the floor, the pump is floating. Now where ever a tube is touching another tube or a cabinet, wall or anything else put a piece foam around that tube at that spot, if the pump is still banging you mist a spot. The pump should purr like a kitten. Good luck it works. I also reduced the noise level of my 2000watt honda by 50%.
