I am pulling out my hair (and I have very little left to pull) Donna and I have a 2011 RP-172, they have 2 bunks in the front and the rear dinette makes a short queen. We sleep in the rear queen and it is pretty comfortable, but we know down the road these cushions will fail. I have the idea of putting 1/4 inch sections of plywood on top of the factory bedding and putting a 3 to 4 inch memory foam on top. I need to be able to roll it up bungee it and store on top of the top bunk while we are using the dinette. I have searched past forum topics on the mattress, but alas, I am still as confused as before the search. Has anyone been sucessful with a foam top mattress under $300.00 bucks ? There goes some more hair.

We use the dinette bed on our 173 and had some of the same concerns you have. After doing lots of reading on the topic on the rPod message boards, we went out and ordered a 3 inch thick memory foam queen topper from Walmart, free shipping to store. I think we paid under $200 for it. Very comfy when placed on top of the dinette cushions. Actually more comfy than the bed at home. LOL! When we're not using the topper, we stash it behind the 173's couch area.

I bought a 3" natural latex mattress topper from Arizona Premium Mattress. 623-432-9171. They also have the memory foam. www.latexmattresses-phoenix.com
They sell a standard 60x80 queen for $279.00 delivered and they cut it down to 60x74 and rounded the corners for me.
