We are the recent and proud owners of a 2012 HRE 177.  We've already camped in late season snow (Tahoe) and summer heat and couldn't be more thrilled with the quality, layout, and size of our new trailer.

We've already done a few small mods and have a long list of other's we hope to get to! Wheee!

Mookie - what mods have you done, and what are you planning? In my 2011 RP-171, I was considering a cushion or seating re-work in the front dinette so two could lounge to watch the DVD player. Our fixed Q. size bed is at the rear, and too far from the small tv screen. I may also fabricate a narrow shelf board along the front ledge with drink holder holes. Maybe the designers don't actually  live in them.

Good looking rig. We love the 177 floorplan.

LOL@ the late season snow. We just missed getting 4"-6" dumped on us last July at South Lake. Came down the mountain about 2 hours before it started.

Thanks all!

  • The Ridgeline tows great.  We fill up with premium for a tank or two before we go and we've towed it up over Donner Summitt (~7100' elev. with a steep approach) in light snow with no overheating or shortage of power.
  • We've only been able to use the RDome a couple of times, as it required a mod before use.  It did great in the snow, but I did use a broom to knock off the build-up once in awhile. It was pretty easy to put up thanks to this forum. I already had a can of silicon spray before my first ever attempt.
  • Most of my mods thus far have been the basics:
    • changed the storage hatch locks to combo locks
    • changed all the bulbs to LEDs
    • Added a 12v cigarette lighter socket to battery case
    • Modded home set-up for use with a FloJet portable pump for dumping at home
    • Added plexiglas to screen door so the dogs wont rip it
    • Assembled outdoor shower / dog wash/ sprayer station
    • Adjusted RDome to fit 177
    • ShelterLogic Barn for at-home garage (in progress)
There's so many more mods I still want to do. How to choose the next one?

P. S. A number of us are planning a Sept. rally to Seaside in Oregon.  Hopefully you might join us.  Should be fun and one of our attendees has just returned from a trip from their home in Washington State to Alaska and back.  They will be giving a fireside chat on Sat. nite, about their trip.  Safe Travels.

Yo Mookie,

May I ask where you purchased your "combo locks" for the storage areas?

Welcome...and enjoy.
