I am thinking seriously of converting the stand-alone dinette table to a pedestal table so that we have a bit more leg room and more space for Comet to sit underneath the table.  My question is the stability of the table, and that some friends have commented that it will be wobbly.

For anyone that has made this mod, did it work out okay for you?

I used a piece of 1/2" plywood cut 3" shorter than the opening on both sides so that it could be moved back and forth. I put slides under the plywood so as to not scratch the floor. We are both healthy people so being able to slide the table made it easier to get in. I didn't want to mount the base to the floor. Good luck.

I removed the table and converted the two side benches into an 'L' shape.  Much more roomy and you can still use the stand alone table if you want to.  We decided to use tv tables instead.  There's a photo in this thread on page 7.
