Topic: Finishing off rpod cabinet edges Posted: 03 Mar 2013 at 7:04pm |
I have a 2010 176T which I purchased 2 yrs ago and my entertainment area cabinets have very sharp edges. They are losing the cherry stain from wear on the edges and I'm thinking about using a small pocket plane or sandpaper to round the edges and re-stain.
Has anyone worked on cabinet edges? Any suggestions? Thanks.

I suspect it isn't solid wood but a veneered finish so easing the corners might be impossible. You would quickly cut through the veneers to the core material. Which would probably be pressboard,

I was told that the cabinets were made from hardwood by amish craftsmen, I am not sure but I bet Marwayne could tell you he has done extensive interior mods, added shelves and it looks better than factory, you might be able to use the search function and find them.

To whom it may concern: Ok, here is the scoop on cabinet material in my pod 2011 (172). There is no cherry wood in the pod anywhere, the only real solid wood is in the cab. doors and drawer fronts, they are made of maple and stained to look like cherry. The front frame and styles of cab. are made from lumbercore plywood (strips of wood glued together with veneer on each side). They then wrapped them with a layer of cherry colored vinyl ("mac tac"). The sides of the cabs. and the fronts under the seats are 1/8" paneling made of mahogany plywood with cherry fotofinish. The panel on the fridge door, the bathroom door are cherry fotofinish. The only particle board in the trailer is the kitchen counter and the tabletop. If you want to round off the corners you can either play around with stain trying to get a close match, or cover it with another layer of "mac tac".
