Where you using the electric braking? There could have been some conflict between the TV braking and the TT braking causing heating in the tire. I'm thinking that the TT could have been trying to hold the TV back, which would be akin to burning out. Glad it worked out okay and thanks for sharing.

Dang, that's scary.  Do you store your trailer outdoors in the hot Arizona heat and if so, do the tires receive direct sun or do you cover them with "tire guards"?

Wow, barbanjoe, I'm glad you weren't hurt. I've heard too many stories of problems with trailer specific tires. I've also heard lots of people are replacing their trailer tires with LT tires. I think I'll do this when it's time to replace ours. There just doesn't seem to be many quality trailer tires to choose from, and now having a single axle RPod doesn't make for a great comfort level. I once had a flat on a dual axle trailer, and it wasn't much of a problem.

The tire shop stated the tread partially separated from the casing,caused a bubble and broken belt. New trailer tires are only good for 2-3 years depending on the brand. The tires are always covered in storage, and I always check the inflation, thus I didn't have a blow out,just lost a piece of the tire.

Glad you're safe. Our pod is a 2009 bought end-2010. I think we'll check the tires carefully when we dewinterize in a few weeks.

Are some trailer tire brands better than others or should we change to different tires altogether?

It's scary to lose a tread and will definitely make you pucker. Glad to hear everyone is ok.

I used to pull a lot of trailers when I worked for the EPA. When we purchased a new trailer we always changed the trailer tires to truck tires. I guess I need to think about doing that with the rpod.

Well we are about to head home from Florida to upstate New York. After reading the tread story, we checked and yup,,,we have Power Kings :(:( and they are three years old. Guess we are replacing tires before we leave!

You should see what that does to an Airstream.

Didn't happen to us, but on the way to alumapalooza a couple years ago, it did to someone we were caravaning with. Since we were at the factory, they were able to get it fixed right there. Was about $4k..

I would only replace the pod's tires with radial trailer tires (same as the originals).  In general, check the front, back and treads once in a while for cracking (dry rot) and bubbles.  As long as you always travel with the tires inflated to the sidewall max rating (65 psi) and they are under 5 years old - with none of the signs mentioned above - I would keep using them.

Every brand of trailer tire has had problems at times, so don't freak out and panic ya'll.
