I finally towed our new R178 with 2016 Grand Caravan. It tows good and near level with stock suspension and without WDH or SC . However I understood why Dodge gave it a 40sq ft frontal area spec when I was towing against a 20 mph headwind and trying to maintain a speed of 60mph -had to go to 4th gear at 3000 rpm. If I tried to stay in 5th it would frequently shift down at the slightest wind gust or incline. (Probably should have just slowed to 50 mph.) It did have plenty of gas pedal left to go even faster if I wanted to increase the rpm.
I added a SC bar and it feels even more solid than with no SC. On flat and level windless highway I can get 18+ towing mpg if I put into cruise control and around 30 mpg not towing. Leo B - you have a great looking rig and your comments on this forum have been very helpfull to me. Thanksl |

My first dump station with the new RPod 171 in early Jan. TV: 2012 Nissan Frontier V6 4.0L.
First trip with the new RPod: Wilmington NC to FL, parked in mom's neighbor's driveway for 5 nights over Christmas, then roadtrip with a friend back home, through Cape Canaveral (Titusville), St. Augustine, Savannah and Tybee Island, Walmart parking lot outside of Carleston, then back home to Wilmington. I'm now on a 2 month trip back in FL.

How to post a photo .. click on the small image in the toolbar that looks like a tree in a box (6th from the left in the reply window), you may have to click on the up arrows to open the advance window. Once there - you can link to photos that are posted on another public photo site - google photos, flicker, snapfish, etc. So upload your photos to on of those sites - or if on your phone you may have dropbox, or google photos app installed. If so they will auto upload your photos to their site. You can get the URL/link of the photo and paste it into the Image URL text box on the Insert Image dialog box.

I agree. Only saw the blue online and was pleasantly surprised to find the gray topper when we went to the dealership last month. I really enjoy the blue/gray scheme.

Nice. With the Cruiser and your lifted Pod, you are ready for some boondocking Rocky Mountain style.
I wonder if it would help to attach an aluminum airfoil wedge to the rear part of your FJ Cruiser's rack?
