drjim, pass on the warranty and put the two grand in a separate savings account. after 3 or 4 years you will be 2k ahead of the game. most small problems can be fixed with a screwdriver , pliars and a good dose of common sense. I did take a 3 year extended warranty from dometic on the the 3 way fridge, it was reasonable and I knew the cost to replace it would be pretty high. Donna and I are on our third season with the pod with no failures, break downs , etc. it is a quality unit.

drjim, welcome. The existing factory warranty will work through any major problems - as others said, if its going to break its going to break early. If you really want a warranty get the factory extension for $150, also already mentioned. Other than that stick your $2k in the bank and hold on to it in case something breaks after that. Odds are in your favor you'll come out ahead.
My response when asked if I want the extended warranty for anything is "if your company is willing to make the bet that it won't break, I'm willing to take that bet too". The factory extension for the pod is the only exception, I did buy that.

Have never once heard of a 7 years warranty from any Pod owner or dealer ever in 4 years. The only warranty that is commonly offered is the additional 1 year warranty that can be bought for $150. People rarely get the warranties. Thing is in most people's opinions is that if it doesn't break in the first year then it's probably not going to in the 2nd year. A good first year of camping and using your Pod will work out all the kinks and/or issues.

I pick up an rpod 178 on friday and the dealer has suggested a seven year extended warranty that costs $1999...has anyone done this...it seems to be way out of line for the unit.
Am looking forward to getting answers and support from this forum. Jim

I'm a big believer in that if it doesn't break in the first 90 days, it is likely that it won't and you have a good unit. IMO anything that goes bad after the first year is a maintenance task for me or just crummy luck.
It really is a nice price for the peace of mind though. Lots have been happy to get it!

I never buy extended warranties, but I did buy one on the 3 way fridge as it was reasonable and my dealer said they were expensive to replace. I hope I didn't waste my green stamps.

The only warranty our dealer spoke of was expensive so I passed. As it turned out we didn't need it, but easily could have.
