Topic: 7 Pin Wiring Diagram Posted: 06 Sep 2013 at 12:18pm |
Hope this is the right place to post ?
We have a 2014 BMW X6 as the TV and it has been equipped with BMW factor Hitch/7pin connector and BMW Brake Controller. I am trying to get the wiring diagram for the Forest River R Pod 182G 7 pin connector that will plug into the TV. I want to make sure that the TV wiring 7Pin is compatible with the R Pods. I am assuming that there is a standard here but not sure if BMW's is as some parts come from Germany. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Don't have the 182 G yet but we have begun the search process

Assuming it was wired for the US market since it was sold here, there is a standard it should meet. If you want to double-check yours I just did a quick search and found diagrams here: |

You beat me to it, Tech!
Here's the info I found, from etrailer, which has proven an excellent reference for me in the past: http://www.etrailer.com/faq-wiring.aspx Pod- You are wise to check. A friend of mine who just got a new BMW gave me her radio-to-iPod USB interface cable, (she was not going to use it), and it does not work in my Chevrolet truck. |

Just go to any U Haul, they will have a plug in tester.

Ok I'm a bit challenged here. What would that show ( U Haul tester) other than there is an active circuit coming from the TV. I am more concerned with the continuity of the TV wiring 7 pin and the Trailer 7 pin wiring so they match up...i.e., same functions matching.
Like I said I'm no wiring/ electrical genius here just don't want to damage an expensive TV electrical system.

The tester will expect the output from the Bargeman connector (7 pin) to be the standard, so without knowing what the TV's wiring is, you can verify it is wired correctly. Plug the tester in and verify its LED lights blink as expected. They will be labeled. Left turn signal, right turn signal, brake pedal, 12 volt charge line, brake controller output. You'll need a 2nd person for a few minutes to easily do the tests. Or, use the diagrams above and a volt tester. You'll need a 2nd person for this too. |

The tester does the same thing plugging in your trailer would do, but you can look at the lights on the tester instead of walking around to look at the lights on the back of the trailer. The tester has lights that blink for brakes, brake controller, r-turn, l-turn, etc. It doesn't tell you whether the lights are burned out on the back of the trailer, or if the wire from the tongue to the back of the trailer is damaged, but it does tell you whether your 7-pin connecter is wired to the standard rpods and most US trailers expect.
Off the top of my head, I don't know that there is any way you are likely to ruin the wiring on your TV if the Bargeman isn't standard. More likely your right turn signal would come on when you turn left. It's good to test though.

How do I test to see if my battery is actually being charged when plugged into my tv?
