Have a 06 Nissan titan. Transmission running hot when pulling my 177 up hill when transmission drops gears. It cools down once Tranny goes back to over drive but it also slows down. Can't seem to keep speed up without down shifting and increasing RPMs but then over heating occurs. Not sure what to do.

Welcome. For starters your vehicle may have a towing mode, and if it doesn't the manual may tell you to drop out of overdrive while towing. My previous TV (tow vehicle) had a button to lock out overdrive. My current one has a tow mode but doesn't require its use until you reach 50% towing capacity, and also doesn't require dropping out of overdrive (but it essentially does that when in tow mode). Bottom line, check your manual.

Yes I do have a tow mode but it didn't seem to make a difference.

I'm not intimately familiar with OP's vehicle, but general advice: Full synthetic transmission fluid will run cooler (and cool faster). Also, an aftermarket tranny cooler is usually a fairly inexpensive addition. Also, full synthetic oil tends to keep the whole engine running cooler.
But, as techntrek said, make sure to check your manual. Finally, sometimes when you're towing, you have to suck it up and go slow. While towing, my vehicle likes 55mph and that's generally where I'll sit - even in a 60 or 65 zone. And, on a 10% grade on a very hot day, I've done 45.
