I'm planning use my R178 with the rear bike rack and I was planning to store the spare tire in the front storage area below the U-shaped dinette.  Are there better areas to store the spare?  When placing the spare tire inside the Rpod, is it necessary to tie it down to prevent it from moving?

We bought a spare tire bracket from Northern Tool and mounted our spare to the front tongue. I think the tire should be secured if storing it inside for safety.

I suspect, if you cram as much stuff in the storage area as we do, the spare can't go anywhere...

I'm looking at sourcing the spare tire winch from a late model GM truck & mounting the spare under the back of the pod. Hopefully between the frame rails, for ground clearance. I think a couple lengths of angle iron, the winch & a crank handle should do it. Just gotta pick up our 178 this Saturday before making final plans.
