Watch the amazing Plast-Aid video/demo (see all of it) on this link: It seems to be good for patching & sealing almost everything on RVs, boats, etc. Not a spray-on product. Strong, machinable, and paintable when dry. Although I have not yet had occasion to use Plast-Aid, it comes highly recommended over on the Moto Guzzi group I frequent: http://wildguzzi.com/forum/index.php?topic=68350.0 CO_PILOT |

I don't have much experience with other campers, except looking at them while contemplating which one to buy. R-Pods are pretty well up there in terms of quality, by my observation. They have good customer service and a good warranty, but your observation about not being built to the same standards as planes, boats and even cars seems about right. Campers don't fall out of the sky or sink usually-- though that's not a great excuse for sloppiness. I've seen some sloppiness in mine, but nothing that matters really. Still, this is not the quality one would expect from a Berkshire Hathaway company based on their reputation.
As others have said, you seem to have found some odd-ball manufacturing quirks. Should they be there? No. Are they worth worrying about? Almost certainly not. Use some silicone caulk or some expanding foam or something to fill the holes and forget about them. TT |

Furpod,
Thanks for the insight. This doesn't seem to be animal damage or road debris damage. The holes are symmetrical in shape and the same exact depth. It seems that someone was trying to drill some access holes into the cabin and goofed. It seems RV manufacturing standards seem to be low compared to planes, boats, cars, etc. I wouldn't purchase a car with holes in the floor board, even if it was a "Yugo". If I had cut the holes myself, that would be one thing but I wouldn't expect this on a brand new unit. Other things seem to be a little off also. The majority of screws that connect the water tank brackets don't seem to be screwed in straight or screwed in all the way. I was thinking positively and thought that might be for expansion reasons but now suspect it is just piss poor work. My 2 cents. Cody

Actually, most on here who have looked, and like us who have experience with other campers and brands, pretty much think that in their class, the R-pods are pretty well built. Stuff does happen. Your pod may have been pulled over something at some point, a piece of road debris may have struck it, a squirrel may have tried to get in.. who knows... Goop it up.. go camping. I promise no major damage was done there. I have purposely cut bigger holes than that all the way through my pod.. |

Maybe those holes are for some other option, or a running design change caused there to be "extra" holes. Ever look at the firewall or underside of a car? Lots of extra holes. Either way, I'd spray foam them.

Thanks for the responses everyone especially from the senior members of this forum. I think I got a nice "reality check" on Forest River RPOD manufacturing quality (or lack of).
It seems to me that purchasing a brand new RPOD without holes would not be an unreasonable thing to ask. Maybe my expectations are too high.:-(

Agreed. I would either spray foam or RTV them. |
