Quick question...is there any reason that you don't/wouldn't run bleach water through the hot water tank?
Only asking due to the tank sitting over the winter. I drained it in the fall, but no idea if a little water was left. Would it hurt anything to run some bleach water through? Mostly considering the anode rod.
Thanks!!!

not sure what the right answer is, but i run the same bleach water through the hot water heater as i do for the rest of the system.  i was actually wondering the same thing, but just went and did it anyway.

We didn't know if it would do any damage to the anode rod or not. Guess we'll find out!! Lol

We have done it withno problem and also run a bit through our pottable water tank  just to kill any bacteria that might be in there

I've bleached my hot water tank every year for the past four years - I've never noticed any damage to the anode (and I'm still on the original).

-edit-

Also, I'm jealous that you're dewinterizing.  There's snow in the forecast (just a dusting) and overnight low of -7C on Tuesday. Disapprove
