I'm planning on using a "guest membership" at Sam's Club to buy a couple of batteries tomorrow - these guys:
http://www.samsclub.com/sams/duracell-golf-car-battery-group-size-egc2/prod3590220.ip?navAction=push My cost w/guest membership will be: $247.896 @ 230 amp hour they are a bit cheaper than Trojan 105s and get really good reviews. Made by Deka as far as I can find out. Seems like a reasonable decision, no? Thanks! fred |

But, here's some things that you (and I) should consider first:

Width can be a problem but there are solutions. I have a Group 31 and a Group 24 mounted on my pod. I bought a case for each and cut off the handles and one side where they meet. Did a similar amputation with the cover. A little black gorilla tape and it looks... black. Weight could be an issue, but isn't for me.

Good points! The dimensions and weight I found for the batteries are 10 1/4" long x 7 1/8" wide x 10 7/8 to the top of the post. the weight of this battery is 64 lbs. http://reviews.samsclub.com/answers/1337/product/prod3590220/questions.htm?sort=helpfula I'm not too concerned about the added tongue weight and I am pretty careful loading the pod. The tray on my 178 is 8" wide and 24" inches long at it's shortest. Although I think I'm gonna tak a stab at making my own box first, it does look like this Century Plastics box would be plug-and-play: http://www.allbatterysalesandservice.com/browse.cfm/4,576.html Thanks!

Time to find a 12 volt blender! Margaritas for everyone!! 230 amp hours of fun.
For the time being I modified two group 24 boxes to allow the extra height of the gc's. Like shroomer said, I cut off the bottom about 1 1/2" up and the glued a black plastic extension around the boxes. Then covered my sins with black gorilla tape. I may eventually get the Century Plastics box, but this worked out pretty well. |
