Closing in on our latest bed mod. We wanted a day bed and end table. We also wanted to be able to convert to queen. The foam for bolster/filler/side came from http://www.thefoamfactory.com/
The cat needed his own private place in the basement (bottom left), we needed more shelves, a stove cover and a full length mirror. All worked well during our first trip this year. I'm sure we will be modifying the mods before long. Couldn't have done much of this without the great tips from folks here! Thanks!

178? Cool mod. What does it look like with the bed all the way out? How do you support the middle?

Hi Jdub,
There's a piece under the mattress that spans the opening width. The bolster in the back then drops in to make the full size bed. We have a rolled up topper to cover the whole thing when we want to use the queen - "movies in bed" with "popcorn" are the best!! As I am about 2 1/2 times larger than my lovely bride, I often roll to the dinette for both of us to get a good night sleep. I am quite use to sleeping next to engine rooms or next to engines on rolling boats, so the dinette is a luxury. Floor is not bad either. I can quiet my CPAP a bit better that way too. Henry, the cat, jumps back and forth but mostly ends up curled in my armpit. He's my bud. fred

Fantastic job, fwunder!
I've often thought of converting my dinette into a daybed (with a small flip-up table) - you may have just inspired me!

Thanks Outbound.
We really like the modification. Feels roomier and home-ier. BTW, heres the prototype for flip-up shelf. Finish was with 1/2" birch with 1/4" birch "lip" and edge banded. Same with furnace cover. I'm not that confident in my skills so I use some cheap mdf to prototype and then pattern from. Also, I had to strengthen the sidewall of galley cabinet a bit to support shelf bracket. Another year or so and I might be ready to take on a marwayne galley revision! |
