I got the 178 and love it.  Also really loved the space in the 179 but did not like the sofa/dinette for some reason.  The hybrid is a little like a pop-up...if you put the ends in wet, you will need to open up when you get home to let them get dry.  You won't want to keep them put up wet for very long.
By the way.....I am in year 31 as a public educator.  Seriously thinking about pulling the plug at the end of this year!

Good Luck,
Take care.

Thanks for answering. Man is there a ton of information on this site. Yes we are looking at 179 also. We didn't like the dinette area for some reason but loved the rear kitchen. We've looked at so many were going cross-eyed. The dealer is pressuring us to put a deposit to hold the 2014 178. Then swap out if we like the 176t better. He says they have 2 coming In about 3 weeks. About a 1000.00 difference.

Have you looked at 179? We love ours and the storage space vs 178 is great.

My 2ยข... Hello and congratulations on your retirement! I have a 178, just got it about two weeks ago. I ruled out any hybrids based on the idea that when it's cold the tent is going to be cold and when its hot the tent is going to be hot. I felt that the 178 would provide more comfort and protection in extreme weather situations.  Have fun in Alaska! Smile

Hello, just wanted to introduce ourselves. John and Dolly (bearclaw68) a couple of retired teachers making our move up from tent camping to an rpod. Trying to decide between the 178 or the 176t. We're liking the tent feature on the 176t but keep getting feedback (salespeople) that they leak or the tent canvas doesn't stay put when closed. Any suggestions would be helpful
Heading to Alaska for a long trip this summer.
