Topic: Protective XtraRide extended warranty Posted: 06 Oct 2014 at 5:33pm |
Looking for opinions on the Protective XtraRide extended warranty. Our 2014 178 is just about one year old w/about 10,000 miles on it. We probably won't put that many miles every year, but we do intend to use it quite often.
I just received the paperwork from my dealer for an extended warranty. On the surface it actually looks like a pretty good deal and I'm not usually an extended warranty buyer. The plan: Towable-New. Platinum plan. Pretty much bumper to bumper including slide out, appliances, AV, etc. 72 month term (6 years). $100.00 deductible. Can transfer upon sale for $75.00. Contract plan: $657.00 plus tax. The little bit of research I can find on the web seems to indicate this is a pretty good deal. What do you think? Thanks! fred |

I literally put my transfer paperwork in the mail today, for the Platinum plan the prior owners purchased for my Salem. I read the booklet cover to cover and it sounds good, just pricey for the whole 6 years. However, if your pod's fridge completely fails in those 6 years it will just about pay for itself. For the $50 its costing us to transfer the 1 1/2 years left on our contract I would be dumb not to do it but I'm not sure I'd buy that plan from the start. If you want peace of mind and can afford the $, go for it, but from a financial standpoint odds are you'll do better putting that $650 in the bank for the next 6 years and draw from it if something does break.

Thanks Doug. Pretty much exactly how I feel. We can afford it, so I think I will let the decision lie with wife. I would probably take the money. She will probably take peace of mind.
BTW, I checked about lesser years/rates. They definitely want the money up front: 4 years: $600 5 years: $626 6 years: $657 Did the extended warranty option help your decision on purchasing your unit? Curious if it helps resale. Thanks! fred

They didn't use it as a selling point, not even mentioning it until the next day. I would use it as a selling point if I sold it today.
