Sleepy I have a 2013 Toyota 4Runner, it's tow limit is supposed to be around 4,700# to 5,000# based on all the tow charts, questions to mfr., etc.

I've been told that towing 500# more in the trailer is the same as loading the 500# in the TV.  Essentially, that there is no difference in where the weight goes.  It will affect the towing limit because either way it is affecting the TV's performance and causing it to work harder.

Is this correct? Thanks

I'd read the owner's manual and see what it says.  WARNING - There may be some math equations involved.

For example with my Honda Ridgeline, according to the manual, the more people or cargo I have in the TV, the less weight it will tow.

Weight is weight, and there is no getting around that.  But if you put the items in the behind the center of gravity of the trailer instead of the TV, that might lighten up the tongue load and less stress on the TV suspension.

Crack that owner's manual out of the glovebox and RTFM.
