Hello everybody! My wife and I are picking up a new RP-171 tomorrow. This is my very first camper and my first experience towing. I'm looking forward to it and am thankful for all the info you guys have already provided. Believe me, I've been pouring over this forum for days.

I just spent the day installing everything I need to tow and will be wiring it all up in the morning. Then, off to the dealership. This should be interesting.

We also came from tent (in our case, backpacking) camping. Give your 171 a very careful once-over. There will be little things wrong, but that's true of anything brand new. We have been very fortunate in not having anything except little things, hopefully you will too.

Altho not talked abut, I think the 171 is the perfect choice for people like us, small enuf to go almost anywhere, big enuf to be comfortable, no heavy slide outs to go wrong. You will need to be patient with others in the 171 tho, passing in that narrow aisle requires cooperation.

I hope you have an R-Dome, too, not perfect by any means but very helpful in decreasing congestion and, yes, with experience one person can put it up. I made a little table, clamps to trailer fender, that helps in meal cooking and prep and spreads out congestion.

Thanks for the welcome! The trip home with the Pod was uneventful. The thing pulls like it's not there. It was setup in the yard before nightfall, level and powered. Now, time to check for campsites

Compared to a tent, this thing is a castle. The only things I think I will miss are the sounds and smell of the beach. The R-Dome might be a good comprimise. My wife and I have discused buying one once we try it a few times without.
