My sense of this is that Winnebago realized that it was cheaper to pay a licensing fee than to try and design something that could infringe upon FR's designs, and then have to deal with a lawsuit.  I would suggest the other copy cats did not pay any licensing fees and FR rightly sued and won in defending the design.  I am sure there are many other types of licensing agreements between large companies, although I cannot describe any off the top of my head.  I assume FR has copyrighted the design and therefore, Winnebago had to enter into a cross licensing agreement to play in the small RV arena.  Their Micro Mini Wini did not impress my wife and I after trying to find one to see.  It really cannot  touch the Rpod in size, amenities, or quality of build for the price.  Safe Travels.

Since it is identical to the Pod down to the wheels my bet is that FR makes them as others on this thread have said.

This community is going to face a very tough decision as they determine whether to let these winnie owners "drop" into this forum.  See what I did there!

Decisions...decisions... (says the guy who doesn't own either one, lol).

Doesn't sound like Forest River is oem'ing it according to this article: http://smalltrailerenthusiast.com/tag/winnie-drop/

Side windows don't look the same and doesn't appear to have a keder rail for a dome.

Look closely at these pictures and they are not identical.  Different side windows, bathroom faucets, and other minor features. No awning or dome mount.  No word on if their refrigerators beep or not.

This forum is very popular would Winnebago be willing to pay a fee for their Winnie customers to use this forum. Smile I think we will have in time some Winnie owners joining this forum.I have thought of our Vibe as a distant cousin but the Winnie's will be much closer related. Wink

Thanks for the good attitude.

We would welcome them, as we do all. That is one of the reasons for the creation of the "non-pod" area. I have a feeling there will be a lot of similarities between the two, anyway. There are several areas of the forum that are not strictly "Pod-specific". For instance, camping adventures are always enjoyable to read, regardless of what someone is pulling.

It will always be a R-pod forum. But, if you aren't pulling a Pod at the moment, we still love ya!

David I agree and I am sure the rest of the forum members agree to. We all have a lot to learn from one another and it  makes the reunions much more interesting. I think the members have always been friendly and have welcomed all r-pod owners and non r-pod owners. I was thinking if being the Winnies are so similar they could have their own area. Having sort of a r-pod and Winnie forum. Just some ideas from a non r-pod owner. I mentioned on the Forest River forum that other Vibe owners might find this forum interesting and the moderators deleted my post. So sometimes my ideas are not so good.Smile
