Hello everyone. We are David, Suzanne and Brea Ezekiel. Brea (Bree-ah) is our retired racing greyhound. We are not new to trailer camping but have been dormant for about 15 years (work got in the way). We live down south on the Alabama Gulf Coast.

We have a new 2016 R-pod 179 with the Sea Glass interior. After looking at and studying many others, the 179 was the best choice for us. We love the storage and the rear kitchen. Note: an R-dome came with our 179. We have not set it up yet but we will post the results of our effort and include pics.

We (I, David) pull our 179 with a 2003 Ford F-150 PU. Our Ford has the 99999 liter engine with auto transmission and did not seem to notice the 179 was attached. I did have the dealership add a Husky sway plate.

This is a great forum and my wife and I have gathered a lot of useful information and look forward to sharing our experiences.

Updates to follow.................

GADZOOKS!! That sure is a big engine in our truck. No wonder our truck never knew the 179 was back there. The engine in our F-150 is the Triton 4.6 liter. Whew.......

Welcome.  I got a great chuckle at that engine size.  You can edit a post at the top-right of the post by clicking on Post Options.

Thank you techntrek for the tip. Your Pod Instruction Manual has been very helpful.

hogone - I did disengage the transmissions OD and the engine revs stayed up to a certain degree. One advantage we have down here is all of the flat land. We have very few hills in our area and the roads are mostly in a grid pattern. These factors tend to make pulling the trailer somewhat less hard on the truck. I have pulled a 35' fifth wheel and a 28' tagalong, they were definitely back there. Here is hoping that our good fortune continues.

Welcome to podding.  This group and its facebook counterpart are terrific.  We'll be doing the Gulf Coast later this month.  Info on good campgrounds and boondocking possibilities on Alabama's Gulf Coast would be appreciated.

sailor323, my input will be somewhat limited in that we are just starting back camping in this area ourselves. In Alabama, you would need to check with Meaher and Gulf State Park to see if they have any open sites. They get bunches on Snow Birds and are generally at capacity. You can go to www.alapark.com/parks for their info. Both are nice. For Mississippi and Florida, we are still researching.

Sorry for my limited input.

Congratulations. We recently purchased an R-Pod 179 as well. I did some helpful modifications that you also may find useful. They are already posted in the forum and there is a link to pictures.
