Looking at purchasing a R180 with the R Dome Awning and Screen Room. Curious as to people's experience with putting it up and taking it down. Probably won't use the screen room too much but would like the canopy up.

How long does it take to put up the canopy? Any difficulty getting the canvas to slide through the bracket? Can one person put it up with a short step stool?

Your thoughts and experiences would be appreciated.

Welcome to the group! We really enjoy our r-dome and use it quite often. My wife and I can put it up in roughly 10 minutes. I could probably set it up alone ( but would probably break something). We spray a little silicone in the track and it slides in fine.

Thanks so much for replying.

Noticed you are a Harley couple.

I have a Goldwing trike. My wife has a Harley super low ride.

Was thinking about getting the bike rake but have to store the tire in the Rpod or in the truck. Hoped to find a bike rake that would go on the receiver but they don't make them any more. Probably affects the hitch weight too much. Bummer.

The tongue is too low to mount the tire under the tongue of the trailer. Bummer again.

Anyone have a brilliant idea?

Yes. I did look at several You Tube demonstrations regarding installation of the R Dome and Screen room.

Thanks.

Pros & cons with rdome. Some campgrounds don't have enough room to setup
(need 10 ft out) to use.Its like a tent so you won't want to setup or take down in rain or if wet. If l am base camping in same spot for a week or more
I will set it up.It does offer a complete additional room when used. Not 100% bug proof with bottom screening ,about 90% sort of like a tent. Bugs are easier to kill and another barrier for them to get through in order to
get into trailer. It takes me about 20 minutes to setup by myself including
the bottom screening. That's with practice. Two people probably 5 mins.less.
About at least 30 mins. to take down. I bought my pod used which included
the dome.l am not sure l would buy one if not included. I also made a awning
out of 10ft x 8ft blue tarp. I used bolt whose heads would slide in the channel with washers & wing nuts.l use a extra awning rod that l had from a
previous trailer to pull the tarp through the channel. Just a rod with hook
on end. Then l just use some old adjustable tent poles that l had for each end of tarp away from trailer.lt works to keep rain off your head & dew off
chairs.alot of pod owners just buy dining canopies/rooms instead.

You'll find there are places you can't set it up - trees too close, or an embankment.  We preferred our EZ-UPs since we could put them anywhere.  We would set up the dome for a week-long trip or if it was going to rain over a weekend.

I have to admit that initially I was not too happy with the effort it took to put up the R Dome. However, after a little bit of tinkering I am now extremely happy with it.

1. I trimmed the leading end of the keder welt to make it tapered.

2. I removed all of the standard head screws holding the keder rail.

3. I drilled all of the keder rail screw holes to make them slightly tapered so a countersunk screw head would fit almost flush in the hole.  I did not drill all the way through the keder rail.

4. I replaced all of the keder rail screws with countersunk head screws.

5. I sprayed just  little of lithium waterproof lubricant inside the length of the keder rail.

Now using a short 3 step ladder I can push the R Dome all the way into the keder rail from one end by myself.

As they say, I am a happy camper!!
