I did the change last spring, 10-11 months ago now. I have no control over eBay or Amazon pricing, just related what I paid. A quick google search shows 2 single GC-2 boxes are about $35-$45 to the house right now, based on the first 4 hits on Amazon. The one I used, from the place I bought it, without looking to see what they have for specials/shipping/eBay/Amazon, is $77 to the house today. (it looks like the one at $64 is the same people I bought from.) Again, I have no control over current pricing of anything. I find the single box to be a much cleaner installation, vs my sister's two separate boxes, it's also much heavier construction. Personal preference. I was just relating what I paid when I did it, and offering up an option. |

I purchased two of these to use.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00316KU6E?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00 They work well. It took finding a longer cable to wire them in series since there is some space between them, but it is working very well. |

What gauge cable should we use when wiring two GC2s in series? Is the rest of the cabling coming off the pod 2AWG or 4?

Don't fret too much over the size whether 2 or 4, since the distance is so short.

You could probably go as small as 8AWG. We're only talking about 30A max here and, as techntrek said, it's a very short run. Automobiles can pull a lot more than 30 amps when cold starting, which is why they need larger cable.

Cool, thanks.
Now, with batteries in series, I know it's the voltage, not the Ah, that doubles, so two GC2s of 210Ah each will still produce 210Ah when in series. But does the RC double? I still haven't figured out if the Costco batteries have an RC of 107 at 75Amps or 25Amps, but either way, would it be a Reserve Capacity of 214 minutes when in series? Thanks for all the battery advice, everyone!!

Batteries in SERIES: Voltage adds, AH and RC stay the same.
Batteries in PARALLEL: AH and RC add, voltage stays the same. In both cases stored energy (Voltage x Current x Time) adds. So two 210AH GC2s provide 12V at ~210AH and ~107 min RC. Actually you'll get slightly more than 210 AH since the 210 is measured at the 20 hour rate, or 10.5Amps. Your normal usage will be less than 10.5A so the battery will supply more than 210AH. Thanks to Mr. Peukert. The reserve capacity, usually specified at 25A, is essentially meaningless for RV applications. |
