Hey everyone! I'm thinking about modding my 179 with the Hood River Edition Tires and oddly enough, the non-alloy spare tire that's shipped with the HRE models actually matches my TV better than the allow wheels.

Does anyone have a good picture of the spare that they can post so I can get a straight-on look at it and also see what model tire it is?

Thanks in advance.

My 2012 177 came Nankang N889 Mudstar LT235/75R15 load range C tires. I believe the new models have a different brand of tire. I replaced them with BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A tires.

Good tire info and option, thanks!

This is the best photo I could find of a 2017 HRE spare tire rim. It's a little more visible on this pic then most others. I still haven't found a match for it online.

I think the new trailers come with a Westlake CR 857 LT235/75R-15 tire

Interesting that they changed tires. I'll have to look in to all of these options, thanks again.

I checked with FR and they said I could add the Risers on the '17 if I wanted, I didn't ask if the HRE has the risers but I should have. So from the factory, my non HRE comes with the new axle configuration, no risers and a ball height around 20 inches.

Do you happen to know the approx. level ball height for your r-pod as it sits with the tires you have now?

I am not sure what you mean by Ball Heights, my Coupler Heights is 16”. I think my axle has sagged a little over the years. I do have the Hood River Addition with the risers. At one time it was closer to 17". Coupler heights is measured from the ground to the bottom side of the trailer's coupler.

no risers but new axle still means its higher off the ground than previous years models right?    I'm with you, I liked the HRE edition tires.

I went down to the dealer again, and measured a 2015 with Risers and a 2016 without risers.

- The 2016 new axle is about 1 inch shorter than the 2015 with risers, at the frame or coupler. I've always spoken in terms top of ball, or ball height so I know the exact location of the measurement being taken. A 16 or 17 inch coupler height sounds low but it depends on where the measurement is taken.

This photo is the 2015 with Risers:

This photo is the 2016 without Risers:

- The fender clearance on the 2016 definitely won't allow the LT235/75R15 tire. The new models with the new axle would have to have risers installed to fit a 29" tall tire.

This photo is a 2016 with no risers:

I can say that perhaps both trailers weren't perfectly level, so there is some possible variance in what I measured. But I am scratching my head at what FR Support told me when they said mine would be 20" top of ball. I'm not seeing that in the real world. But at least I know the fenders won't clear a 29" tall LT235 without risers.

I was told the 20" ball height too. I expected the new axles to be taller. I thoight the whole point of that was to raise the camper up without risers so camper wouldnt hit on drives. Also didn't realize those 15s were 29" that's a big difference from looking at pics. Thanks for the pics!
