Hello
This is only our second year with our R pod and my husband is away on military training so that left me to de winterize the trailer. All was going good until I put the hot water and cold water valves parallel and the other one to be perpendicular. When i ran the hot water taps anti freeze came out....Did i totally ruin the trailer??? PLEASE HELP!

No, you did not ruin your Pod. It sounds like you just got a little out of sequence.

Probably the best way to deal with the situation is:

Return the valves to their "winter" position. This isolates the water heater from the rest of the plumbing system. Remove the anode rod and allow the tank to drain. Take a hose and spray water into the hole that the anode rod came out of until it is well flushed - no more pink antifreeze detected. Put the anode rod back in and tighten snug.

Now, before moving any valves, flush all of the antifreeze from the rest of the plumbing system. Once this is done, THEN move the water heater valves to the "summer" position and allow the tank to fill. You are done and everything is OK.

If you need more specific detail, just ask.

PS - Before doing any of the above, shut the water pump off or shut off the city water supply - if you are using that. Open a sink faucet (hot and cold) to relieve the pressure in the water lines and water heater.

If you don't do this, you will get sprayed/soaked when you remove the anode rod.

Please don't ask me how I know this.

Remember to release the pressure switch on the water heater  before you try taking the anode out.

BTW, anti freeze won't hurt the WH. You isolate it before winterizing so you don't have to fill it with anti freeze (6 gallons) before the rest of the HW plumbing gets filled.

My understanding is that RV antifreeze will corrode the anode rod. Thus, the anode rod may require replacement if it is corroded down to the center rod. Otherwise, a good flush of the hot water tank to get out any residue would be good. Camco makes a wand that helps with flushing the hot water tank.

Use a 1 1/16" socket with an extension to get the anode out.

I wouldn't even bother removing the anode rod.  Fill it with water and keep running it for a few minutes and it will all be gone with less work.
