I just purchased a 2017 r pod 179, and opted out of the r dome.  I'm seeing a lot of pictures of interesting options for an awning, but can't find information on the size of the inside of the rail that the dome would slide into.  Does anyone know?  I'm thinking sail slugs or a rope the right size would slide through the rail and hold on a tarp of some sort nicely.  Called Forrest River and was told that it was 1.5", which doesn't even look close.    Any help is GREATLY appreciated!!!

Many have used sail slugs and others have sewn a bolt rope into a tarp.  Both work well.  I think the keder rail on newer pods is 15mm, but someone else can answer this more definitively.  I do know that 1/4" sail slugs work on our 2016 179.

Has anyone looked into if one of the jayco hummingbird awnings would be adaptable to a r pod?

Check MARTI'S Awnings in chico CA.  The flat part on my 179 is 8ft.  Will need two poles - she has a link to some quality adjustable poles.  Now we are waiting for a time that the wind isn't blowing to try it out.

If you are interested in a retractable awning, nearly any household awning can be adapted to work on the Pod.  You don't have to get one that is marketed as an RV awning.  We like our R-Dome.  It can be used as an awning or a separate room.  They are kind of expensive if you have to buy one.  For a bit more money, you can get Pahaque's version of the dome and from what I have seen, it seems to be better built. You can see several homemade awnings on the R-Pod Owners Facebook page.  https://www.facebook.com/groups/56931970807/search/?query=awning  If you're not a member, you should join.

Good morning fellow campers. We are in our third day of being R-Poders, 179. So far, all is going great. We even have our 9 yr old cat on board. ( Liter box placed in shower during the day.) We have moved up in size from a Tear Drop. Loved her, but look forward to the indoor cooking & being able to stand up. We know we will enjoy learning from ya'll.
