Topic: Chevy Colorado Tow Vehicle Posted: 17 Jul 2016 at 10:15am |
I bought a 2016 Chevy Colorado Crew Cab 4WD, with the trailering package, the long bed, and the 3.6L V6 engine. Specifications say that it has a 7000 lb tow capacity. I am sure the question has been asked but can I pull an rpod safely and what model would work without overtaxing the engine? We live in western Colorado but would use it in the mountains toward the eastern part of the state. Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the group! With a 7000 lb capacity, you should be able to tow any of the pods comfortably!
We tow our 179 with our Dodge Grand Caravan comfortably. Our van has a 3600 lb capacity |

The Colorado you have is great for continuous mountainous treks! You could very easily burn up something lessor.

I notice that some of the new vehicles include some sort of load leveling mechanism with the trailer tow package. I wonder how that works.

Welcome to the group! Your Colorado should do just fine with any model of Pod. I would have no reservations in regard to towing with it. As far as overtaxing the engine....it will be working but, as long as you don't spend extended periods above 3000 RPMs, it should not hurt it. If it has "tow/haul mode", you may want to use it. Also, engine power is degraded at altitudes due to the thin air. |

I also have a 2016 Colorado. Trailer/Tow package with selector switch. I tow a RP 178, no issues. Very happy with tow capabilities. Only thing I added was sway control bar.

Did you do anything with the brake controller, or are you just "plugging in" and going? |

I am adding a brake control, but was plugging in and going - no issues.

I'll add with the long bed you have a long wheelbase, which is good for towing stability. I have a 2010 Suburban and have pulled a 6000 pound camper all over the US w/o problems. You'll be fine with a pod.
