Hello -
I am new to the forum, and very close to purchasing an R-Pod 179 for family trips. I am curious as to the tire and brake life expectancy on the R-Pod? How many miles is normal on the stock tires? Also, do folks use the cover that they sell when they are not using the trailer? Thanks for your help in advance! |

Tread life is not usually an issue with trailer tires. They expire due to time, dry rot, chemical decomposition, sun exposure, etc. Most folks recommend replacing tires every 5 years, or sooner if uneven wear or cracking is observed. Brake life depends on use, but should be checked when you check wheel bearing grease: every 2 years or sooner if very heavily used.

I'm on a 5 years cycle with my tires. Bit of UV protectant type spray a few times each season really seems to ward off some of the minor cracking you seem sometimes.
I've never covered my actual Pod itself but kind of wish I did in the winters. The sun can really cause a lot more oxidation on your Pod that will take a bit more maintenance and cleaning to keep it nice and shiny over the years of ownership.

Welcome. Here is how you can read the date info from a tire:

I would go with 5 years, even if low on mileage. They are cheap compared to car or SUV tires. Replace all 3 simultaneously.
