As temperatures have dropped in the nights, our frig has started acting erratically on propane.  If the temp is above about 55 it will start right up, but if it is much colder, sometimes it will take multiple attempts to start.  Often at night we will wake up to the red flashing indicator that the propane never lit some time during the night. Anyone have any idea what might cause this or what I can do to fix it.  When it does light, the frig works great.  Just not sure how to have it consistently come back on when it cycles.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Is the propane tank getting close to being empty? I thought I read somewhere that as it gets colder the amount in the tank makes a difference.

Is it possible that the propane side needs to be cleaned? We ran our refrigerator on tanks all the way down to almost empty with no problem last winter. The only time I had problems was when I had not run the refrigerator in a while and the gas line needed to purge the air. In that instance it took a bit before the gas reached the burner and could ignite. That also happened when I had to change out the hose which runs from the tank to the regulator. It had developed a leak at the fitting that connects to the regulator.

Check for squirrel holes in propane lines. Little buggers are just rats with good PR!

Yes, those are wild ponies dining on grass while dumping tanks!

There is a very long list of things that can cause a flame problem on the fridge system. First steps include cleaning the burner and orifice and checking pressure.

Thanks for the suggestions.  Almost no squirrels in Phoenix where we live but there are some roof rats in the area but not at our house, thankfully.  I always run the stove before initially starting the refrigerator on gas and the WH and heater work fine but I know they use a much higher volume of gas.  I have had this problem with both full and not full tanks.  Just happens at night when cold. My next step will be to try and clean the burner and see if it helps and possibly replacing the regulator.  We have only had the problem when we are out camping which is usually at about 7500 feet and much cooler than at home.
