Remember that the tire gets lowered as well as getting pulled out. There will be room. I had one mounted on our RP179. The HR's 15" wheel isn't that much bigger than the 14" wheels on ours. I don't have it mounted now because I used that space for my ladder and sewage hose holders and put the tire on its original mount. It was okay when I had it there. Like you, I was concerned about space, but realized that it was a non-issue as soon as I saw that lowering it would give plenty of clearance for the stabilizer.

Did you turn/rotate your rear stabilizers? In the back of our HRE, the rear stabilizers are mounted at a (roughly) 45 degree angle. They seem like they would seriously encroach on the space occupied by the hide-a-spare and spare tire.

No, the midwest edition has the same layout for the stabilizers as the HRE. When the BAL is mounted, the tire sits toward the center of the R-Pod. If the tire were square, it would be a problem. The stabilizers clear the tire because it is not near them when it is centered in the space between the steps and the crossbar that supports the original spare carrier.

I will lay it out this weekend. The vertical space will be close. The tire is 9" wide. The frame is 4" tall, and the BAL allows 6-1/2" on one side and 6" on the other (so 10 to 10-1/2 inches). That means we "should" have 1 to 1-1/2" clearance for the tire.

i have a 2018 R pod 180 Hood River Edition and tried to install the spare tire rack. The width of the 15" tires prevented the mounting of the locking bracket to the frame. I needed at least 2 more inches to mount the bracket to the camper frame. I didn't realize this until AFTER I cut both telescoping rods on the BAL rack so it would fit between the frame rails. Now i'm stuck with a 35lb paper weight.

Get creative and extend the attachment points with some metal plate.

just take the mounting plates to a welding shop and have them extended about 2". That is what I did to mount mine on our 180

We thought about that, however we decided the rack would hang too close to the ground for our comfort.

It still has plenty of ground clearance

If you look at it, it does not hang below the level of the steps (on our 179 it didn't). Anything that would take out the BAL Hide-A-Spare would also likely take out the steps with it.
