Is there a particular brand or type of black water treatment you have had good luck with? There are so many available it's confusing. Thanks in advance . Hal

Using Camco 41191, the TST Orange Singles... Drop half a botthe down the toilet and the other half down the drain. I don't if I'm doing it right but I neved had any problem with my RV's... Before dmping, Dawn dishwasher soap + a bunch of water and I let macerate a few hours.

I am trying a different approach than chemicals. I purchased RV Digest-It. This is a combination of bacteria and enzymes which will help to liquefy wastes, and is supposed to help prevent build-ups that prevent the sensors from working. A similar product is TankTechsRx. The chemical treatments mask odors with a strong scent. These take a biological approach to address the cause of the odor rather than mask the symptom.

Since I have not done more than an initial treatment and my EscaPOD has been parked without use since purchasing the RV Digest-It, I don't know how well it works yet. The reviews online are good though. I'll know more after the next trip, but we won't be taking that until the end of the year.

I recently began using TankTechsRx Stephen mentioned above. About two weeks prior to a trip to Acadia at the beginning of the month, I treated both black and grey. Grey tank was really, really, really foul.

I did initial treatment by adding 1/3 cup to both tanks, filling grey tank and adding about 15 gallons or so to black tank. Prior to leaving for Acadia, I emptied grey tank (at home). Virtually no odor. I emptied black tank upon arrival at campground. While at campground (one week), it didn't make sense to treat tanks. No noticeable odor at all while camping. Emptied both upon leaving.

Upon return home I treated both tanks with about half as much as I used initially. I filled grey tank and added about ten gallons or so water to black. Before we leave for Assateague in a few weeks, I'll repeat the process.

I really don't want to test the "water resistance" feature of my new iPhone so I prefer not to lower it into the toilet to inspect black tank, but I can tell you there is absolutely no odor in the Pod. There was before.

I did write to the company to ask about preferred long term storage for the product (unused). They didn't respond. As it is a probiotic, I would imagine best would be cool and dark. Not sure about shelf life, but if it's like yeast it probably doesn't "activate" until it is in contact with nasties.

Fred,
My understanding is that as long as it is not stored under extreme heat or cold, it should stay viable. The information I read also indicated that the probiotic bacteria are in a dormant state.

It is really good to hear that it works well. I hope the RV Digest-It also works well. If not, then I will switch over to the TankTechsRx.
