Hi, my 2017.5 (blue) has 3 valves...when I turned on the pump, the pink stuff started coming out the bathroom sink with the hot and cold shut off...I could not stop it...was able to get it winterized, am I doing something wrong?

We used the ultrasonic rodent/mouse doohickeys in my astronomy club's observatory; haven't had any mouse problems since we started using them. I don't remember the exact brand; it's been a couple of years but I could keep looking.

I'll have to investigate it further when I winterize in a week or two. I believe it was at the top of the WH but I don't remember if it was 2 or 3 way. I did not remove the anode. I do open the hot water faucets as part of winterizing.

Details please, Doug. Where is the valve and is it shutoff or two way? Did you have the HW faucets open?. The anode port open? How is it plumbed? Any check valves? I'm really baffled by this. |

My Salem only has one valve. Took me by surprise the first time I winterized it and I ran a test or two to be sure it didn't allow antifreeze into the WH.

The middle valve should be open, parallel to the pipe, while pumping antifreeze. That allows antifreeze to flow through the hot water pipes. For storage it makes no difference how you leave them, but you should have it open again next year to flush all the AF out. |

I have a 2017 Model 180 and it has 3 valves. I have winterized and all 3 are turned perpendicular to their respective pipes [after drawing in the antifreeze from the tube] I guess there are several configurations.

Yes, that makes perfect sense. The two way valve performs the function of two of the conventional valves. That's a simple and obvious improvement, but I can't think of any way to accomplish the objective with only one valve unless it's a fancy multi-function valve or an additional check valve is involved. |

Our 2017 R Pod 179 only has two water heater bypass valves -- a two-way valve on the inlet and a shutoff valve on the outlet. Moving the two-way valve directs the inlet to the bypass pipe and the shutoff valve blocks the water heater outlet. Make sense?
