Les,
Looks like the 171 has a queen bed. This mod could work the same way, you could do 1 large drawer that would come out between the fridge and the bathroom, over the storage door. |

Les,
Look for space that may be hiding from you. I do not have a 171, but I am sure that you could do some creative work to add space. Perhaps you could do something like a shelf similar to the one I put above the bed in our 179. From the floor plan, you do have a queen bed. That would be a start. I don't know for sure, but you might be able to do something with space under the bed also if the heater is not located there in the 171. Use of bins to help organize things also is helpful. We use some on the shelf and others in our kitchen cabinets and pantry. You don't have as much space, but organizing it can make it more useful. Since you don't have a wardrobe, you may wish to get an expanding clothing bar for your tow vehicle to carry hang-up clothing. Get creative. Keep an eye out for things as you travel and as you poke around stores . You don't know what you will find that will solve a storage problem for you. |

Nice job, I would like to add drawer space, but I have 171, limited to any kind of re-vamping.

I have this same model. This is fabulous. I don't have the skill to do it though.

Nice work on the drawer. There is so much wasted space. The 6" of wasted space in the wardrobe drawers was the one that really surprised me. I could not enlarge the kitchen ones as much because of the plumbing. However, any wasted space put to use is a plus.
For the ladder, check Amazon. I think I saw a 5' model there. |

GP Logistics SLD-S6 is the one I have. There is also a double sided ladder available. I got ours used for about half the price. We were at Nellis AFB camping while we were visiting our daughter and family. Someone with a motor home was selling it as it was too short for their use. We brought it home inside the pod. After we got home, I needed to find a way to store it that was not in the pod. The way I did so was the best way I could think of to get it to fit underneath in the storage compartment. So far, it has worked quite well.

Stephan, on the angle iron, if you just unscrew the 2 square head screws on each end and rotate it up you get a nice finished edge facing the cabin and the angle iron just hides behind it. And what kind of ladder fits in a 5x5 space?

Thank you for the details. I will have to see if I can use a couple of the steps: angle iron and move the water pump.
