Looking to upgrade my 178 to 8 ply rated tires. I have seen the Carlisle tires and another tire - the Gold Crown 908, anybody have experience with the Gold Crown tires? They are a bit cheaper than Carlisle's.
Not so worried about cost.

Never heard of Gold Crown. I recently upgraded our tires to the Carlisle Load Range D tires. We took it out for a short trip and then for one to the dealer's location. I like them better than the load range C tires that came with our 179. I feel better having the higher load capacity tires as the weight of the R-Pod was near the top end for load range C tires.
I would do some searching for reviews of both tires. Unfortunately, a quick search does not yield any available reviews for the Gold Crown tire. |

Thanks SH, same here, I don't like to buy tires that
don't have a review history, I'll go with Carlisle's.

I don't want to start a tire war, but everyone has their favorites. We have driven our pod over 20,000 miles on Maxxis 8008 and never had a problem related to the tires. We had a blowout once when I ran over some construction debris-I was in the middle lane of a 3 lane highway and couldn't move over either way. Even then, the tire stayed together, didn't shred, didn't slap the fender off or lose control. I also put them on my utility trailer. I always get them balanced when installed, and I rotate them annually. I check the air pressure religiously (daily) when traveling. they seldom need additional air unless the pod has been idle for a month or more.
Maxxis 8008 are what I will buy again. travel safe Vann |

Maxxis 8008 were not part of the discussion, but having a recommendation in favor of them means that there is a third option. I just checked, and the 15" tire gets good reviews on Amazon, the only problem being the age of the tires some have received. However, from what I gather, the 14" tires on Amazon are only 6 ply rating (load range C) and not 8 ply rating (load range D). The 14" tires. The rating is not nearly as high.

Maxxis 8008 are available in a 14 inch tire with a D load range rating. I have 6
of them. My local tire dealer got them from their wholesale supplier. They clearly show load range D embossed on the sidewall. I don't know if they are 6 or 8 ply Vann

Good info and happy to research. From the tire sites I have looked at I cannot find a 14 inch Maxxis tire in 8 ply rating, 15 yes, 14s are all 6 ply. Normally at D rating applies to 8 ply and C to 6 ply.

Our Carlisle D-rated tires have been great thus far. We replaced the factory tires after only about 5000 miles because both of them blew out on the same trip. We had so little confidence in the factory tires that we replaced the spare too.

Leaning toward the Carlisle's, reviews are better than past. Think I'm better off with D rated, vice C.
