curious on others thoughts on gas quality from different vendors. I am not faithful to any one specific company or store, I pretty much get it when and where I need it. recently however I have gotten the past 4 tanks at the same location (ill keep that a secret for now)!!! I have noticed a pretty good decrease in mpg. just in my head or very possible? hogone

Check out the information on this website:

http://www.toptiergas.com

It is an independent company that tests gasoline formulations for EPA requirements and engine life. There's a lot to read.

all the gas around Topeka,KS comes out of the same pipe line. also just remember there only so many refineries  around the U.S. that refine all the gas. the only differance is the junk major gas co. add (or do they)

Maybe it is just me but......

I seem to notice a drop in MPGs when the refineries switch to their "winter blend".

Well, I'll tell you what I think I know.....

The EPA requires all States to use summer blend by June 1st of each year. The date of switching to winter blend is left to the individual States. For example, the folks in Alaska will need a winter blend sooner than us folks in Hoosier land.

The winter blend does have less "energy". However there are other factors, such as; a cold engine requires a richer fuel mixture to start and run. Another consideration is the tendency to let an engine "warm up" (idle) a bit longer in cold weather.

As far as differences in 2 nearby fuel stations, one could still be selling the remainder of their summer blend, while the other has already switched to winter blend. I suppose it depends upon when each station needs to order gas to "refill" their inventory (underground storage tanks).

In the end, it is all probably a plot of the big oil companies. All of this switching back and forth is a great excuse to raise the price!
