Topic: Upgrading to 15" wheels Posted: 02 Jan 2017 at 10:27am |
Just purchased a 2013 RP177 and would like to upgrade to the 15" wheels, like the Hood Rover version. I have a line on some really nice 7" chrome wheels, 5/4.5 lug pattern, 0 offset. Is this the wheel I need for ST235 75R 15 tires?

Aside from the offset, does it matter?

It has been so long since I studied the difference, I don't recall. I do know that trailer tires have less sidewall flex. A call to a tire store may help. And I would like to know what they say.

Trailer wheels are not automatically 0 offset. They can be different. The only way to find out at home is remove the tire and measure on flat service OR go to Forest River and ask. Do not guess - the wrong offset can destroy a wheel bearing very quickly. Not enough that bolt pattern fits. You may be able to cut a flat board that is exactly the width of the wheel - 14" and measure both sides but the tire can't be measured in the equation. I couldn't find anything on the interweb that says what an RPod offset is. Good luck, but do not use a different offset wheel. My advice.

Thanks, MCarter. Great info. I called Forest River but they are not open today, Jan 2. I'll try tomorrow.

etrailer sells 15" wheels - 100 apiece. Once you know offset, sure they would verify fit. Another piece of advice I am a big D rated tire fan versus the C rated the Pods come with. Much less sidewall flex and you can run air at 65lbs.
