I'm exited to pick up my new 171 next weekend, there are some things I wanted to ask you guys who tow with a minivan. Did you need mirror extensions and did you find you need air bags for your rear suspension? We were towing a Scamp 13 which weighed 1200 lbs which was negligible as far as effecting my handling characteristics. I just want to know what I'm in for. Did anyone put airbags in the rear suspension etc.

A weight distributing hitch is much better than air bags.

Plus a WD hitch can also provide sway control.
You will need mirror extensions or towing mirrors. In some states, they are required. Vermont is one of those states. I use a set of mirrors that strap onto the Frontier's mirrors for towing. We are using the Dual Head XLR Rachet Clip-On Mirror which we purchased from Camping World. I had tried one other set that just held on with rubber straps, but I was unhappy with those as they were not supposed to mar the paint on the mirror housing, but they did rub it. These are much better. |

No on airbags for rear suspension and yes on the mirror extensions.
