Camping without "shore" electricity has been problematic, in regards to keeping my beloved puppy cool enough in warm/hot weather. When it gets much above 80F, it starts getting uncomfortable for me and, no doubt, Dixie.

In the past, I had been using a 120vac fan, run via my inverter. The fan uses 0.5 amps @120vac. At 12vdc, it uses roughly 10 times that (5 amps). While it did the job, using 5 amps per hour made for a lot of battery charging. So, I got to snooping around.

Those of you have been around the forum a while know that I am "thrifty". While there are some 12vdc fans sold at the camping supply houses, they cost a little more than I wanted to spend.

I happened across this 12vdc fan (Link) in the automotive department at Walmart. It seems to blow just the right amount of air and is fairly quiet. The tag says it uses 0.8 amps. This is way better than 5 amps! I hang the fan "upside-down", underneath my dinette table an point it at Dixie's "spot". It can oscillate but, I have it set to NOT do so.

I used it over a 4 day stay Memorial weekend and was pleased with it. No doubt, Dixie appreciated the breeze, also.

Hi David,

Dixie breeze! Sounds like a nice cool drink!

I bought that exact same fan quite a while back. It was a bit too noisy for me so I switched to a 10 inch O2. They are a bit more @ about $20 but very quiet, can run on D cells or 12vdc and sip amps - about 0.5-0.7 amps. I liked it so much I bought a couple of little 5 inch O2's - one for me and one for Henry the cool camping cat!

Fred,  Where did you purchase your 10" O2?  Sounds like a winner for those of us who often camp where there is no electricity.  BTW how do you hook it up to your pod battery, direct or via another method?

Jato,

I got mine O2s from Amazon. Looks like the have newer models now than the 10 inch i bought.

I use cigarette lighter adapter (12v) for the fan (generic). I got a bunch of adapter plugs in the pod.

Thanks for the info and link! I may purchase a fan for myself and I'll give these a good look. While the bath fan, along with opening the correct window does a pretty good job of overall venting, sometimes it would be nice to have a little extra air movement.

I'm not sure if Dixie would like cold beer.

I'm not sure if I want to be in a small enclosed space with an intoxicated animal that has large fangs, either!
