The center section, female end, of the aluminum pole for the arch of our r-dome split on a recent camping trip.
I've bumbled around the web looking for a repair section, but haven't come up with anything so I'll put the question out here: Has anyone repaired their own arch pole, and where did you find the part?
My other option is to disassemble the pole, move the center section to the outer end and cut off the split part (~2"). The pole is a struggle to insert in the grommets in the dome itself, so maybe that solution would work to both repair the pole and make it easier to hook the grommets to the ends of the pole.

So....ended up cutting off the broken end and moving that section outboard. I wanted to reinforce the mouth of the sections to prevent splitting again. Ended up with a 1/2" brass collar on the female end of each section. A 45 ACP casing cut off at 1/2" provides a .004" to .005" interference fit due to the inside taper in the casing. Just cut it off and tap it on with the thicker wall to the outboard end.

How did the split occur??

I'm having trouble visualizing this. The stresses put on the poles are minimal, one end on the r-dome plastic female unit, the other on the r-dome aluminum rod stretching the front of the r-dome, lock down the plastic joint and you're done.

Was it a manufacturing defect??

Not sure if there was a flaw that may have acted as a stress riser, or the bending stresses overcame the elastic limit of the aluminum. The dome was up for two days and the third morning I noticed the break and took the dome down. The female end had split the full length of the male end. It was the center most section at the top of the arch. It may not ever happen again, but I feel better having the added support of the brass collar.

Edit; The strap at the bottom was only tensioned enough to allow the front panel to zip closed.
