We're trying to figure out how to remove the window shades in our 179 without taking the valence down. Has anyone done this? One of our blinds doesn't stay up anymore when one of the strings on it broke so we thought we'd replace it with a tension rod and curtains.

I don't think you can reach the fasteners without taking down the valences. Valences are not hard to remove; one or two screws on each side (at least that's the way it is on our R-179).

Thanks. I think we located the screws in the lower corners but not the screws in the upper area of the valance. We were at the point when we were just going to cut the darn things. One of the shades at the head of the bed will not work at all anymore one string is broken and another one is going.

This is what I'm planning to do as well, at least initially. Curtain (with removable white-colored blackout fabric) on tension rod. Our shades aren't broken but I want to use fabric instead. And to be able to lean back against them sitting up in bed, which you can't do with blinds. At some point we'll remove the valance too and put up a curtain rod. I need to get some of the tans & browns out of the interior and bring in some blues. The cabinets and counter tops are pretty and happy with that but the cushions and valances are easy to replace and doing so will create some balance. If I'm going to be (gulp) indoors, I need to be happy with the colors :-) Good luck and please us know how your replacement goes.

I'm guessing that just cutting them out will do the trick ... but not going to say I actually recommend it since I haven't tried it on ours Wink
