My fridge was having trouble cooling when it got 85f out in Florida two weeks ago.  The sun was beating on that side of the camper as well, but the biggest problem was that the fan in the back of the fridge didn't seem to be working.  I would think that it would turn on in that kind of heat but it didn't.  Is there any way to test the fan operation to see of i have a bad fan or thermostat?

Yep, you need a multimeter. And you can jumper the thermostat to see if it turns fan on. I used a heat gun directed at thermostat to see if in fact it closed with temp and an infrared temp sensor, it did. At least it tells you the sensor and fan work. One thing I noticed with my old ears was it was hard to hear the fan.

I had this problem a few years ago and found out that the bi-metal switch was improperly mounted.  I hooked a jumper to both muffin fans and they would turn on but unless I applied direct heat to the bi-metal switch they wouldn't run.  Solution:  moved the switch closer to the chimney exhaust of refrigerator and almost to the top of the radiator.  Now, once the temperature hits 80 degrees (inside the back of the ref. enclosure) both muffin fans come on; they are actually quite quiet.
