Thanks for the replies. My intention is to use it primarily for backing up once the camper is hooked up. There is such a vast array out there (I’ve checked Amazon and etrailer), so I was hoping maybe someone out there had recently installed one. I only need one camera and prefer a dash mount.

I found a wireless Peak brand at Menard's in the clearance pile.  $60.  Installed the camera on the license plate frame and wired it to the license plate light.  Turn on the parking lights or headlights and the camera is always on.  I like seeing what's back there.  When and if this one gives out I'll buy a better one.

Go for it!

If that's all you need, then you shouldn't need to get too elaborate or pricey. Good luck with the search - hopefully installation won't be too tricky! When I installed ours in my wife's Ridgeline the receiver/screen just plugs into the cigarette lighter 12v but I had to hardwire the camera (wann't too bad, ran a line from the taillight compartment).

As mentioned earlier,I would talk to the folks at etrailer.com.  They have a lot of choices to meet your needs.

Almost all the cameras here are the same brand. Different models, but the comparisons seem valid.

This method does test whether or not the tail lights on the camper are functioning (and for me, this is enough of a test mid-trip when I know all lights were working the day before).  It does NOT test whether or not the brake circuit is sending and receiving the appropriate brake signal.

There is an elegantly simple and low tech way to test the brake lights if you are alone and there's no one to tell you if they're on when you push the brake.  A simple stick cut to fit between the brake pedal and the front of your seat, such that the brake is depressed enough to turn the lights on works fine.  Push the brake, put the stick between the pedal and the seat front, then get out and look.  If the TV brake lights are on then the trailer lights should be too. If not, you may have a problem that warrants further inquiry.

The brake lights and tail lights are different circuits. Tail Lights are with running lights. Best to turn on tail lights - check - engage brake - check.

Here is pic of trailer side 7 pin, it is the RV Standard.

I installed a Furrion FOS48TAPK-BL that I bought on amazon.  I wired the camera in to the middle running light at the top (camera comes on when headlights are on).  The screen mounts to the windshield via suction cup.  I use it for both backing up in to the campsite and often when driving since it gives you a much better sense of what traffic is doing behind you.

Its a few $$ but I'm very happy with the quality and glad I did it.
