We don’t need to hang camping clothes. How does one make efficient use of the clothes closet?

How do we organize the kitchen storage? Crawling on my hands and knees to find kitchenware, tableware, or foodstuffs is a pain.

I know there are some left-brain rPodders who’ve figured the best system. Here’s hoping.

Welcome and congratulations! I am guessing that you recently purchased your 179. We had much the same questions when we purchased ours in December 2015. Here are my solutions:

If you don't need to hang things, find stacking bins that fit and fill the space or install shelves to use instead. We do use ours to hang things so this was not what we did. However, I built new drawers for the wardrobe to make them deeper and longer to better use the space. You can see them in my mods (link in signature).

Kitchen storage: Go to Walmart or a craft store like Michael's or Hobby Lobby and purchase wooden slat crates. Use these under the kitchen counter to store items. It is much easier to pull these out and put them in than to try to put individual items down there and get to them. Also, you could get metal mesh bins for the same purpose.

The same thing applies to the pantry. I added a shelf in the top pantry cabinet (if you do this, be careful to only use fasteners of less than 1" in the outside wall as otherwise, it will go through and you will have a hole in the side of your R-Pod.). Use metal mesh bins or fabric bins or whatever will fit the space to store items in the pantry. This keeps them organized and keeps them from falling out when you have hit a big bump in the road and then open the door. You can also find things that help organize like plate holders, napkin holders, etc. at Camping World stores.

We also use some of the metal mesh bins in the cabinet above the dinette for the same purpose--to keep things confined and organized. We do have some items too large for the bins or that are of a size that keeping them up there separate makes sense. Small items get binned.

Also, spring-tension rods (also at Camping World or online) can help keep things in place both in your cabinets and in the refrigerator.

Be creative! I'm sure you have ideas that you can use. You can look at my mods for some ideas, but you may come up with better ones. If you do, please share them.

Hi Shielaru - another happy 179 owner here! Below is a link to a post I did shortly after getting our RPod. Like StephenH mentioned, a shelf above the bed has been our most useful mod (thanks Stephen for the inspiration!) . We have 6 baskets that we use for our clothing - load them up in the house, carry them into the Pod and we're good to go. We use fabric bins for food, etc that go into the cupboards.

One big help was lengthening the drawers - not hard to do if you have some basic woodworking skills. Feel free to ask any questions.

Also, consider adding deep drawers in the corner by the door to make better use of the odd-shaped area under there. Some people have been able to run two drawers that open across the entryway; the propane line for the stove was in the way on our 179 for a lower drawer and we didn't want to move it, so we ran the lower drawer so that it's accessible inside the cabinet door.

Ditto to Stephen....I added 4 shelves to the wardrobe as I figured we would rarely hang any clothes.  It's amazing how much clothing you can get in there.  Wife and I just got back from a week in Florida and were not even close to filling these shelves.  Did the same as Stephen with pantry....added another shelf at the top and we use stacking plastic crates from Walmart....they have several different sizes.  Also use these under the stove.

Plan to extend the shorty drawers when I get brave.  Don't understand why they are so short.

Thank you, thank you for your responses. I love them; however, we are not a "fix-it" family. Don't own a saw, so I guess we're odd in that whatever we modify or add has to be consumer ready.

The cabinets under the stove and by the refrigerator in the 179 requires the use of a flashlight from down on our knees. The drawers under the sink can hold a couple of kitchen gadgets only (a poor design there).
When we open the "pantry" cabinet by the door, we always are surprised by what flies out. We adore Roxie Pod, but we're new to camping off the ground and evidently need photos to see how neatniks organize. Pinterest hasn't even helped.

So the simplest of ideas and website referrals will make us very happy. Plus, we have only used the toilet for liquids as our orientation from the dealer was brief--10 minutes. We're off on another month-long adventure, so shoot us any suggestions if you will.

Thanks if you can send us to help.

I recently put a video out on my YouTube channel on some easy and cheap rainy day R-Pod projects that may speak to a couple of your concerns... There are a bunch of other 179 specific videos there as well. ~PP

Hi Sheila - most of the mods you'll read about here require some woodworking. One easy one is to use fabric cubes in the cupboards to organize food and such to keep it from flinging around. Its also a handy way to load up food in the house and bring it out to the trailer. We use ones like these:

They come in all different sizes and colors and are readily available online as well as at Target, Walmart, etc. Just check your sizes needed before you buy.

First, we take dinette table out at Camp and use under rDome with tablecloth. Frees up a lot of interior space and we live outside mostly when camping.

I have easy adds to the 179, and would post pics but don't know how to do so on here. You can google each of these by title.

Simple Housewares Under Sink 2 tier counter shelving. Use this in 179 pantry, top cupboard on right as you enter camper.

Whitmor supreme small 3 tier shelving. Slides into wardrobe closet giving you 3 or 4 shelves depending how you set it up. Like you, not bringing formal clothes camping, so makes closet much more useful.

(For rDome), Shells 4PCS Version 2 Heavy Duty Vacuum Suction Cups. Use these in place of inadequate stock suction cups that come with rDome.

Blue Hawk 4 tier plastic freestanding shelving. We don't use RV bathroom, so remove the bottom tier, and now have 3 shelves that straddle toilet. We prefer to use campground bathrooms that we are paying for and never ever have to deal with a dump station.

Yes first year with rPod can be overwhelming, and the 27 owners manuals are really not making it easier!. This forum and the FB Rpod Owners Forum most helpful. Also we have found other campers and even campground management very helpful as most campers use the same components.

Get a hitch lock too, and set up system for keys. After we unlock camper, both sets of keys go back into car console. That way always have both sets.

One thing to be aware of is that many of the components on these mass produced trailers are sub spec'd. For instance, the axle is only rated to 3500 lbs. Since camper almost 2900 without your gear, thats not much room for gear. I see some folks haul around the fresh water tank full, thats 300 lbs. The other issue is the puny tires, although think they may have upgraded from my 2016 rRod. Stories about bent axles and the cheap Chinese tires failing. So my take on all this, is keep camper as light as you can, put heavier gear into Tow Vehicle.

Relax and enjoy. If something goes wrong, don't sweat it, you'll get it fixed.

We replaced all the "751" locks with locks that match our door lock. Now we have 1 key that opens the door and all the hatches.

We do also have a hitch lock, but it's the only different one.
