There are pros and cons to each type of antenna.  On our RPOD it was the directional type but with a manual handle and no signal strength meter.  Assuming you did not have access to antennaweb.org and did not know what stations are available and what direction to aim your antenna you had to scan for stations, then turn the handle 90 degress, scan again and repeat until you went the full 360 degrees.  then assuming you remembered which setting yielded the best stations (or the one that you wanted in particular) you would go back to that setting and scan again. And before you did this you have to remember to push the little button where the coaxial cable is attached to turn on the amplifier (yes it does work to get better signal and yes forgetting to turn it off can kill a battery which is why we got a battery cut off switch since the switch is hidden so we cannot easily see that we left it on).  With the new omni directional antennas this is totally eliminated, just scan once and done.  We have that type on our new trailer but it seems we get less stations. So maybe the uni is better at bringing in a signal but harder to find the signal manually, while the omni is better at getting signals but may not be as strong.  Either way neither is great.  If you pull into a campground and all you see are satellite dishes, that is a good sign there is poor OTA reception and you will not have much luck in watching TV using any antenna.

DonC, I have a 2019 171 with the new antenna too. I don’t know how prior years worked, but I have used it twice so far with mixed results. The one thing for sure is the boost button does work. We camped in the same park and same spot. One time I had zero channels and the next time I parked 4 feet farther back and had 8. But for sure use the booster, but turn if off if you are on the battery. I’m sure someone on the board says it runs down the battery.

The new TV antenna for 2019 units according to FR is now a fixed whip antenna type. Anyone have any luck with this antenna seems like it would be not as good as a King directional antenna. I see a boost switch in the bedroom location but does that really do anything? My Winegard Rayzar RV-RZ85 Amplified TV Antenna worked way better! Any tips to get this sucker to work?Crying
