Just picked up our new Rpod 179.  Been visiting out of state relatives the past 5 days.

SUV still hooked up to Blu Ox weight distributing hitch in relatives’ driveway on level ground.

Am I hurting the SUV suspension by keeping the trailer connected to SUV for more than a day or two?

If not, is there anything else you would recommend I do?

Thanks again!  Great forum!

No harm to the SUV by leaving trailer connected. If you plan to occupy the trailer while there I would put the jack and stabilizers down to eliminate bounce but otherwise no problem.

It may shorten the useful life of the spring bars though. When traveling, they're not subjected to a constant force like they are when parked. I would advise at least raising the tongue with the jack a little to loosen up the bars.

Overnight and/or a day or two while traveling, probably not an issue. If you're going to be parked more than a couple of days, you will probably want to unhook your TV.

It won’t be a problem. The whole system including the Spring bars, receiver on the suv, wdh hitch, trailer a frame, etc are all designed for at least 2-3x the standing tension load. Otherwise it would fail from bump loads while towing. So there won’t be any metal fatigue or any issues like that just parked there. Leave it as long as you want.

Thanks everyone once again for all your help.

We’ve been new Rpod owners since last Thursday (4/18).  However, I’ve probably posted on this Owners Forum 10+ times since mid- February, all but once seeking help, and you guys have provided me with timely, thoughtful, podders helping podders assistance that my wife Gail and I very much appreciate.

First- ever Rpod camping adventure occurs next weekend at the KOA in Petoskey, Michigan.  Can’t wait.

As Ive been telling my wife for months now, as fellow podders “we have friends out there we haven’t even met yet.”

Happy Spring to all,

Jack

Best of luck with your new rPod.  We hope you get your very odd battery polarity issue figured out.

Greetings:
When the equalizer hitch is set up properly, all its doing is moving the hitch weight to all the axles, which is roughly 500 pounds.  If you are concerned, just remove the bars, but I don't see the need.
