Last year at hunting camp camp my water pump started getting pretty noisy. With a friend using the shower outside and myself inside for a few days the water got low and pump didn’t sound so great. It seems ok now but I’ve thought about carrying a spare and wonder if anyone else does or are these pumps bulletproof like I’ve heard? Wondering what the most economic replacement would be- assuming amazon.

Yes. Last year had a check valve problem so ordered a new pump and a check valve fixed the old pump hopefully and put quick disconnect connections on the wires after clearly labeling everything. Won’t matter if check valve is malfunctioning anyhow if boon docking. A good backup out in the boonies to get water and peace of mind. I store it in the box in the water pump hot water area. Needed a water pump fast and could get that before the check valve. Amazon for the water pump local RV places marked it up on an average of 30 dollars.

Seems like overkill to me.  The pumps are designed to be fine running dry forever.  They will certainly sound a little different if they aren't moving water.  The limiting factor when boondocking is the amount of water you have, not how many pumps.
